Slow starter

I watch Mark Texeira, the 1st baseman for the New York Yankees, and I can empathize with a part of him. It seems like every April, he gets off to horrendous starts, only to warm up once May rolls around.

He’s not penalized for being a slow starter; nay, the expectation is that he’s ice-cold at the start. If he can get a pass for stumbling out of the gate, shouldn’t I? Or for that matter, anyone else?
