Shootin’ and playin’ at the Improv

Certain types of people bag on basketball while attempting to score some bs racial points for their TV show/friends/political aspirations. Well, a read of this should probably put the chuckleheads on notice (if they bother to read it at all).

I, too, have always noticed the similarities to basketball and jazz, and it had nothing to do with skin color, but how the players on the court and on the stage react to themselves, each other and their environments. It’s trite to say that it’s all talent; no, it’s incredibly hard work to become a LeBron James or a Robert Glasper.

As I told someone, spontaneity is work. And to make sometimes seem spontaneous, takes work. You’re not flying down a court or a set of piano keys blind.
